Indicator definition: Percentage (%) of the population (18-84 years) that have used drugs during the last 12 months and the last 30 days. The total use of drugs includes everyone that used at least one illicit drug (cannabis, amphetamine, opiates, psychedelics/hallucinogens, ecstasy/MDMA, cocaine) or non-medical use of prescription drugs (taking of prescription drugs, whether obtained by prescription or otherwise, other than in the manner or for the reasons or time period prescribed, or by a person for whom the drug was not prescribed, e.g. pain killers, sedatives and tranquillizers). The results should be interpreted with particular caution as the prevalence is low. CAN is responsible for the survey and data were collected in 2013, 2017, 2021 and 2025 regarding use and consequences among the Swedish population with respect to alcohol, drugs, doping, tobacco and gambling. The data was collected through a survey (postal or online survey) based on a nationally representative sample of the population. In total 15,511 persons participated in the survey 2013, 11,514 in 2017, 9,819 in 2021 and 9691 in 2025, which corresponded to a response rate of 59.1, 44,3, 36.8% and 36,4% respectively.
