Obs:

Covid-19 has been a notifiable disease since February 1, 2020. The statistics are included in Sweden's official statistics on notifiable communicable diseases from the reference year 2023 through 2025 week 26. Statistics for previous years (2020–2022) and for the ongoing season (from 2025 week 27 onward) are presented jointly with the official statistics, but the quality of these statistics have not been reported. For more information about the quality of the statistics, please refer to the 'Kvalitetsdeklaration'
All statistics are based on data from Sminet. The data has been processed in a consistent manner, which ensures comparability of the statistics from that perspective. However, over time, there have been changes in the notification requirements and testing indications for Covid-19, which may affect comparability. Starting from 2025 week 27, the statistics are updated weekly on Thursdays with data up to the Sunday of the previous week. This data is preliminary and may be adjusted, particularly for the most recent weeks. Once data for a complete season is available, it is compiled, quality-reviewed, and published as official statistics.
Reported cases are individuals with a confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection according to the case definition at the time of notification under the Communicable Diseases Act. In the statistics for 2020 and 2021, one Covid-19 case per individual is reported over a 12-month period. From January 1, 2022, new infections for the same individual are reported if six months have passed since the previous reported infection. From January 2, 2025, new infections for the same individual are reported if three months have passed since the previous reported infection.
Covid-19 cases are notifiable by both laboratories (laboratory reporting) and treating physicians who confirm COVID-19 following a positive antigen test in cases where no laboratory report is made (clinical notification requirement). The scope of cases covered by the clinical notification requirement has changed over time.
Sex refers to legal sex, i.e., the sex of the case as registered in the population register, passport, or ID.
