The statistics are included in Sweden's official statistics on notifiable communicable diseases from the reference year 2023. Statistics for previous years (2010-2022) are presented jointly with the official statistics, but the quality of these statistics has not been reported. For more information about the quality of the statistics, please refer to the 'Kvalitetsdeklaration'
The data on which both the official statistics and the statistics before 2023 are based are collected from Sminet and processed in the same way, which makes the statistics comparable from that perspective. However, there are several factors that to varying degrees can influence the extent to which cases are reported into Sminet and thus comparability over time. Sex refers to legal sex, that is, the case's sex as registered in the population register, in a passport or ID. Vaccination breakthrough refers to illness despite vaccination according to the recommended vaccination schedule. Note that the age at which the so-called extended schedule, with an extra dose in the first year, is recommended was changed in 2018 from 60 to 50 years.
